Achieving Operational Effectiveness - Dr. Neil Grant - Director Babcock Marine
- HM Naval Base Clyde
Colin Barr Associates has worked with Babcock Marine at HM Naval Base Clyde, for a number of years to provide external process improvement services. Two specific areas of work have been:
1. |
The design and deployment of an organization-wide performance metrics system. |
2. |
Delivering our “Change Leader” programme which develops in-house talent to achieve process change and improvement in a successful manner. |
Both of the above fit within a wider strategic framework developed by Neil Grant which is aimed at achieving Operational Effectiveness. The financial challenge facing the organization is to reduce running costs by £40m per year over a ten-year timeframe. In his paper Dr Grant discusses how adopting a 4-phase framework spanning a projected 8-10 years has already proved invaluable in structuring and time phasing all of the available approaches to improvement.

Lean Six Sigma Implementation at BioReliance
Colin Barr and Associates are very experienced at delivering
Lean Six Sigma programmes. We were selected by BioReliance
as their Lean Six Sigma Partner. This article walks through the
various elements of such a programme and gives some top
level summaries and advice on implementation. It does not
go into detailed descriptions of each element. However, the
implementation experiences of Lynne McConnell and Brian
McLennan of the BioReliance Process Improvement Group,
are presented here.
Hence this article combines our own advice with the real
experiences of a medium sized company who have recently
adopted Lean Six Sigma as their
improvement
methodology.
